Our Post-Surgical Rehabilitation Process
We have great working relationships with our local orthopedic surgeons, primary care doctors, and hospitals in the greater Cambria, California area.
Oftentimes, if someone is coming into our office for post-surgery recovery, they are referred by a local doctor and it’s their first time meeting our staff. We’re here to set your mind at ease about our rehabilitation process.
Evaluation and goal setting
Our first step is a thorough evaluation.
After the one-on-one evaluation, goals will be set to help minimize any effects of the surgery such as, pain or swelling, and restore previous movement and functionality. Every patient has a unique health background, diagnosis, along with personal goals. We will create a customized plan to fit your specific needs.
Controlling pain and inflammation
A key stage of our rehabilitation program is to help you control any pain associated with the surgery. It’s common to have some pain following surgery. It can be an unavoidable part of the recovery process.
Controlling your pain is our first objective in promoting a healthy setting for your recovery.
Our physical therapists are trained to help you manage your pain from injury or surgery in a natural drug-free way.
Improve movement
Our next objective is to restore your range of motion, stability, and strength. Moderate active movement has been shown to improve good circulation and promote healing, while allowing muscles to properly remodel, tissue repair, and regenerate.
Education and counseling
Core Care prides itself on offering one-on-one physical therapy treatments. These individualized sessions give you the opportunity to ask any recovery questions.
Post-operational treatments may include
Exercises to improve range of motion
Posture, balance, and coordination training
Ice, heat, or electrical stimulation

At home exercise instructions
Post-Surgical Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is typically required after an orthopedic surgery to speed up recovery time. It is designed to help get your muscles and joints moving after surgery in specific motions. These motions help strengthen your body and return it back to its prior condition.
After surgery, it is common for the area that was operated on to feel tight or tense. Typically, muscles surrounding the surgical site tend to tense up, causing even more pain. Our physical therapists will work with you to alleviate or diminish the pain you’re experiencing.
How soon after surgery can you have physical therapy?
In most cases physical therapy can start anywhere from a few hours to a few days after your surgery. Please make sure you check with you doctor for proper recommendations.
Chiropractic Care for Post-Surgery Recovery
